To many avid poker fans, Daniel Negreanu is a familiar name and impressive poker player. Having amassed a $50 million fortune through live and online poker tournaments, we take a look at how he grew to being one of the most well known and impressive poker players. 

How he started out

Born and raised in Canada to immigrant parents, Negreanu found a fondness for pool hustling, poker and gamling at age 16. His competitive personality and the combination of using numbers and probability to his benefit, made him an astute and challenging player to contend with. His persistence and willingness to play and win, saw Negreanu beating adults and poker players alike, he set his sights and headed to Las Vegas at 21. Proving to be vastly different from playing poker in Canada, Negreanu lost his money in Las Vegas and returned home to Toronto. 

Making it big

Using his time back home in Canada productively, Negreanu learnt, practised and figured out how to make another trip to Vegas a successful one. In 1997 he was named the best all round player at Foxwood’s World Poker Final. Backing this prestigious title, Negreanu became the youngest player at the time to win a World Series of Poker bracelet. Adding to his success, Negreanu secured these titles to name a few: 

  • 6 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets
  • 2 World Poker Tour championships
  • 2004 Card Player of the Year
  • 2004 WSOP Player of the Year
  • 2004/5 WPT Player of the Year
  • WSOP Player of the year
  • 39 WSOP final tables
  • 3rd on the All Time Money List
  • 2014 he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in Las Vegas

Daniel Negreanu is one of the most recognisable poker players across the globe, he became the professional voice and face for an online poker site in 2005, growing his impressive online presence thereafter.
